A|poc|ry|pha «uh POK ruh fuh», noun (plural).
1. fourteen books or portions of books of the Old Testament that are included in the Roman Catholic Bible but not generally found in Jewish or Protestant Bibles. The Apocrypha appear in the Septuagint (Greek) and in the Vulgate (Latin) Bibles, but are not accepted as genuine parts of the Biblical canon by the Jews or the Protestants, though sometimes appearing in an appendix in Bibles used by Episcopalians and Lutherans.
2. Also, apocrypha. certain early Christian writings rejected from the New Testament.
3. Also, apocrypha. (in the Roman Catholic Church) certain religious literature completely rejected as of dubious origin as part of the canon by the weight of authority; pseudepigrapha. Abbr: Apoc.
